WSMV TV: Channel 4 Nashville started out as WSM-TV in 1950 as Nashville's first TV station and Tennessee's 2nd TV station (WMCT-TV Memphis was the first.) As with WSM radio, the call letters reflect the slogan of the then owner. "We Shield Millions." The call letters were changed to WSMV-TV in 1981. Studios, transmitter, and tower are located at 5700 Knob Road. During the 1960's this facility was used to record some syndicated TV country music programs such as "The Porter Wagoner Show." The station once employeed Pat Sajak as an announcer and weekend weatherman and John Tesh as a news anchor. The tall WSMV-TV tower is also used for WZTV Channel 17, WSM-FM 95.5, WNPL FM 106.7, and WRVU FM 91.1.
