KPNX TV: Channel 12 Phoenix came on the air in 1953 as KTYL-TV licensed to Mesa. In 1955 the call letters changed to KVAR and then in 1959 to KTAR-TV. In 1979 the call letters were changed to KPNX-TV. The station has always been an NBC affiliate. The station had been located at 1101 North Central Avenue for more than 50 years as seen in the photos from 2009 and 2010. In late 2010 the station moved out of this building into the Arizona Republic building at 200 East Van Buren Street. That is the MetLife Blimp in the photo of the building. In January of 2011 a new news set was premiered. The photos from 2011 show the set still under construction as well as the outside studio. John is pictured with KPNX weatherman Rob Carlmark in the news production control room. The news set has a street view as seen in the photos. A KPNX live truck was spotted in 2012 at a live shot. Channel 12 Phoenix was KTAR-TV from 1959 until 1979.
