WTAF TV: You won't find very much about WTAF TV Channel 31 Marion on the internet, but there should be mention of Gene Miller who was the long time Chief Engineer at WTAF-TV who built the station, transmitter and operations areas from scratch, (basically, the transmitter from a kit), and ran the station operations. Gene is pictured at a remote shoot with one of the tube black and white cameras used at that time. Gene was a great radio and TV engineer who was responsible for the successful engineering, installation and continued technical operations at many of the Indiana stations. WTAF-TV, WBAT, (WGOM) WMRI AM/FM, and many others stations in and around Indiana. He also engineered the first cable TV system in Indiana and was acknowledge as a leader in the technical arts including the introduction and promotion of digital transports in broadcast communications. Gene was further responsible for the engineering and installation of LPTV systems, High School, and College closed circuit radio and TV systems (CCTV). He is no longer with us but many will remember his engineering skills and mastery of Electronics, Telecommunications and Broadcasting. While the technology has far exceeded that of his day, many of his foundational works are still in operation today. In the words of his only son Bill, "He is sorely missed, and many of today's engineers owe a great deal to those who lead the industry and laid the solid foundations that today's broadcasters rely upon, including my dad." Also pictured is a print ad from February of 1969.
