WAMB: WAMB Radio 1200 and WAMB-FM 199.3 Nashville studios are located at 1617 Lebanon Road. Their transmiter and a four tower array are located at the intersection of Briley Parkway and Ashland City Highway.

WATE TV: Channel 6 Knoxville came on the air in 1953 as WROL TV. They were Knoxville's first TV station. In 1955 the call letters were changed to WATE TV. The station outgrew its first location and in 1962 they purchased Greystone Mansion and converted it into facilities for a TV broadcast station. The building, a 19th Century landmark, is on the National Register of Historic Places. It was built for Union Civil War Major Eldad Cicero Camp. The building is located at 1300 Broadway NE. The station was an NBC affiliate from 1953 until 1979. They are now an ABC TV affiliate.

WATX: WATX is licensed to Algood, but tower and studios are located in Cookeville. Starting out on 1590 in 1981 as WRZK. Calls were changed to WWRT in 1983, and to WATX in 1990. The studios in Cookeville include those for WBXE FM 93.7 Baxter; WLQK FM 95.9 Livingston; and WKXD FM 106.9 Monterey as seen in the photo from 2011. The WATX 1600 tower is located at 800 Parragon Road.

WBBX: WBBX Radio 1410 Kingston, Tennessee is a daytime only station with studios, transmitter, and tower at 705 Greenwood Street as seen in these photos from 2011. The station is owned by Pilgram Pathway and broadcasts a Gospel format.

WBIR TV: WBIR TV Channel 10 Knoxville came on the air in 1956. The station was owned by Jesse W. Birdwell who also owned the then WBIR Radio 1240. The call letters come from the first three letters of BIRdwell. The station is now owned by Gannett. They started out as a CBS affiliate which lasted until 1988 when they became NBC. The station is located at 1010 Bill Williams Avenue as seen in these photos from 2011.

WBXX TV: Channel 20 Crossville came on the air in 1979 as WCPT and then in 1982 changed to WINT-TV. The change to WBXX-TV was in 1997. At that time they were a WB affiliate thus the WB, the XX being Roman Numeral for 20. The station serves the Knoxville market as a CW affiliate. The two screen grabs are from 2011.

WCOR: WCOR Lebanon started out on 1490 where it broadcast for about 60 years until 2005 when they changed to 900. Their tower, along with WANT FM 98.9's tower are located on Woodcliff Road as seen in this photo from 2011.

WCRT: WCRT Radio 1160 Donelson started out in 1968 as WAMB (now on 1200). In 2006 the calls were changed to WCRT standing for Christian Radio Tennessee. Their transmitter and tower are located along River Hills Drive just south of the Cumberland River.

WCRV: WCRV Radio 640 Collierville serves the Memphis market. They are a Bott Radio Network station. Transmitter and towers are located

WCTE TV: WCTE TV Channel 22 Cookeville came on the air in 1978. This PBS station is part of the Upper Cumberland Public Television group and is located on the campus of Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville.

WDEF TV: Channel 12 Chattanooga came on the air in 1954. WDEF TV studios are located at 3300 Broad Street in Chattanooga. The station photos below are from 2012. One of the on air screen grabs features WDEF's best known personality, Luther Masingill. Luther has been with WDEF since 1940 when he started with their radio station. Luther was featued on one of CBS TV news' "On The Road with Steve Hartman" segments in 2012 (age 90).

WDSI TV: Channel 61 Chattanooga came on the air in 1972 as WRIP-TV. In 1983 the call letters were changed to WDSI-TV. The photos

WDXI: WDXI Radio 1310 Jackson was part of the old Dixie Network from 1947 to 1973 which reflects their call letters. Studios, transmitter, and four towers are located in North Jackson just south of I-40 along Twin Oaks Place and WDXI Drive as seen in the photos from 2015. One needs to be close to the towers to get all four in a shot, thus the slanting effect from the camera lens. The photo taken down the drive only shows three of the four towers.

WENO: The WENO call letters started out in Nashville on 1430 and was Nashville's only full time country music station in the early
days. The call letteers are now on 760. The transmitter and tower are located at the end of Donelson Street at Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville.

WEPG: WEPG Radio 910 South Pittsburg came on the air in 1954. The station and tower are located at 105 North Ash Avenue near the
Tennessee River.

WFLI-TV: WFLI TV Channel 53 Chattanooga came on the air in 1987. Now a CW affiliate on 53.1, they also are on 53.2 with MeTV which has been on the air since 2011. The station was originally part of WFLI Radio, but is now owned by New Age Media.

WGNS: WGNS Radio 1450 Murfreesboro came on the air in 1947. The WGNS call letters stand for "Good Neighbor Station." The station has two FM translators, 100.5 and 101.9. Studios are located at 306 South Church Street. Their tower is nearby. The original tower from the 1940s was destroyed during a severe thunderstorm in 2001.

WGOW: WGOW Radio 1150 Chattanooga started out in the 1970s as a Top 40 station, now they are news-talk. Studios, transmitter, and towers are located at 821 Pineville Road. This is also Cumulus Broadcasting headqarters for WGOW-FM 102.3; WOGT FM 107.9; and WSKZ FM 106.5.

WHBQ: WHBQ Radio 560 Memphis may be remembered best for playing the Elvis Presley song "That's Alright Mama" in 1954. The station played
rjythm and blues, later top 40 rock, and now they have a sports formet. Studios are located at 6080 Mt Moriah Road as seen in the photos from 2015. The forward tower, 1055909 has microwave and an FM translator, the background tower, 1052491 also hosts an FM translator. Sun Studios has on display a reproduction of the WHBQ control room as it would have looked in the 1960s.

WHBQ TV: WHBQ TV Channel 13 Memphis came on the air in 1953. The station started out as a CBS primary and ABC secondary station. They

WIVK: WIVK FM 107.7 Knoxville came on the air in 1965. Their studios are located at 4711 Old Kingston Pike along with other Citadel stations WNML 900, WNML FM 99.1 and WOKI FM 98.7. The frog logo came about in the mid 1970's when the call letters were being pronounced "wiv-ick, wiv-ick" sounding similar to a frog's croak. Note the use of the frog logo on vehicles and license plate. See below for station information on WNML 900.

WJAK: 1460 Jackson was assigned WHMO but changed a month later to WQCR in 1991, in 1996 the calls were changed to WJAK. Their tower

WJOC: The WJOC Radio 1490 Chattanooga transmitter and tower are located just south of North Holtzclaw Avenue at end of Hendricks

WKOP TV: WKOP TV Channel 15 Knoxville came on the air in 1990. Studios are located at 1611 East Magnoloia Avenue. Note the Sesame Street sign. Along with WEPT (see above) they are known as East Tennessee PBS.

WKRN TV: In 1953 WSIX TV came on the air on Channel 8 and in 1973 changed to channel 2 with a call change to WNGE TV (Nashville General Electric) which lasted until 1983 when calls were changed to WKRN TV when Young Broadcasting purchased the station. The call letters reflect their San Francisco, CA station KRON-TV. The WKRN-TV studios are located at 441 Murfreesboro Road in Nashville. The WSIX TV print ad is from 1959, the WKRN TV photos are from 2012.

WLAC: WLAC Radio 1510 Nashville came on the air in 1926. The call letters reflect the first owner, Life and Casuality Insurance Company of Tennessee. Studios are located at 55 Music Square West near downtown Nashville. This building is also headquarters for WNRQ FM 105.9; WRVW FM 107.5 (Licensed to Lebanon); WSIX FM 97.9; and WUBT FM 101.1 (Licensed to Russellville, Kentucky). The transmitter building and towers are located on Dickerson Pike (Highways 11 / 31W). The taller tower is used for their daytime pattern and the two other towers are used for their nighttime pattern which protects KGA Spokane, Washington.

WMC-TV: This Memphis TV station started out on channel 4 as WMCT. They were the first TV station in Tennessee. In 1967 the calls
were changed to WMC-TV. This station has a rich history and more may be found on the internet. Studios are located at 1960 Union Avenue as seen

WMDB: WMDB Radio 880 Nashville known as "The Big Mouth" has studios, transmitter, and tower in north Nashville on Stokers Lane. This station operates on clear channel 880 as a daytimer with 2500 Watts. Their 2 Watts night power doesn't reach very far.

WNAH: WNAH Radio 1360 Nashville came on the air in 1949. The station was the first in Nashville to accept local religious programs. The station moved to the 44 Music Square East location in 1978. WNQM: 1300 Nashville started out in 1945 as WMAK. In the 1960's the "WMAK Tigers" played top 40. In 1982 they changed to WLUY, 1983 went dark. In 1984 F.W. Robbert Broadcasting started the station again as WNQM with a religious format. WPLN: WPLN Radio 1430 is the AM part of Nashville Public Radio. Their four tower array is located in Madison on Nesbitt Lane.

WPLN FM: WPLN FM 90.3 along with AM 1430 has studios located at 630 Mainstream Drive in Nashville. WPLN FM 90.3 started in 1972. The call letters stand for Public Library Nashville. In the beginning the station was a small extension of Nashville's public library system broadcasting from the Richland Park Library. Now, along with WPLN 1430 (see above), they are part of the much larger Nashville Public Radio system offering NPR programming to Nashville.

WRJZ: Radio 620 Knoxville was once WATE, then WETE, and in 1976 the change to WRJZ. The tower site on Cliffside Lane went from two towers to one when a storm in June of 2011 took down one of the towers. These photos were taken in September of 2011, note the base of the downed tower is all that was left at the time of thie photo.
