WABQ: The WABQ call letters were well known in Cleveland on 1540 (Now WWGK). 1460 Painesville started out in 1956 as WPVL. In 1984 the calls changed to WQLS, in 1986 they became WBKC. Then in 2006 they changed to WABQ. New studios were built in 1959 at 713 Fobes Street, that is now known as 1 Radio Place. Access to the station is through a narrow road. The station doesn't look in the same condition that it was in 1959.

WBNS: WBNS Radio 1460 Columbus started in 1922. The call letters stand for Wolfes Banks News and Shoes. The WBNS transmitter and tower site
is located on Barnett Road as seen in the photos from 2015. Note the Blaw-Knox tower.

WCET TV: WCET TV Channel 48 Cincinnati was the first licensed public TV facility in the United States coming on the air in 1954. The on air screen grab is from 2013.

WCKY: WCKY 1530 started in 1929. The call letters stand for W-Covington, KentuckY. Their transmitter and towers are located in nearby Villa Hills, Kentucky. Call letters were changed to WSAI in 1994, but returned to WCKY in 2005. The photo of towers is from 2013.

WCNW: WCNW Radio 1560 Fairfield started out in 1964. The call letters stood for Without Christ Nothing Works. Serving the Cincinnati market, the station and towers located near the Dixie Highway in Fairfield. The photos were taken in June of 2023 about 6 weeks after this station went silent.

WDAO: 1210 Radio Dayton actually started in 1947 as WWSO Springfield. In 1955 the facilities were moved to Dayton and the WAVI call letters
were used. AVI short for AVIation. In 1985 the calls were changed to WDAO (DAyton Ohio). The WDAO transmitter and tower are located almost in the Calvary
Cemetery in Dayton as seen in the photo from 2015.

WERT: WERT Radio 1220 Van Wert started in 1958. Studios, transmitter, and tower are located on Mendon Road as seen in the photos from 2015.

WEWS TV: WEWS was the first licensed TV station in Ohio coming on the air in December of 1947. The call letters stand for Edward Willis Scripps who started the station. The studios are located at 3001 Euclid Avenue in downtown Cleveland. The screen grabs are from 2010.

WFGF: WFGF FM 92.1 is licensed to Wapakoneta, but serves Lima. The WFGF FM tower is located south-east of Lima as seen in the photo

WFUN: 970 Ashtabula started out as WICA in 1937 and changed to WREO, then in 1978 to WFUN. The WFUN call letters had been on a station in Miami, Florida. This photo from 2010 shows their four tower array. See WREO below for more information.

WFXJ: WFXJ FM 107.5 Ashtabula came on the air in 2002, licensed to North Kingsville, Ohio. The Fox 107.5 van is pictured.

WGLE: WGLE FM 90.7 Lima rebroadcasts WGTE the public broadcasting station in Toledo. Their tower is located south-east of Lima along National Road as seen in the photo from 2015.

WGNZ: 1110 Radio started in 1968 as WELX. In 1984 the calls were changed to WMMX, and then to WGNZ in 1994. Currently licensed to Fairborn, the station serves the Dayton market with studios in that city. The transmitter and towers are located in Xenia, the original city of license as seen in this photo from 2015.

WGRI: 1050 Cincinnati came on the air in 1947 as WZIP. In 1981 they became WTSJ and then in 2005 to WCVX. In early 2013 the call letters were changed to WGRI which had been on 1160, the WCVX calls moved to 1160. At the time these photos were taken in 2013 the old WCVX sign remained on the tower.

WHIO: WHIO Radio Dayton came on the air in 1935 first on 1260 then in the early 1940's they moved to 1290. Their transmitter and towers are located on East David Road near Croftshire Drive as seen in the photos from 2015.

WHIZ TV: WHIZ TV came on the air in 1953 as Zanesville's first TV station. Starting out on Channel 50, in 1955 they moved to Channel 18. The print ads are from February 1969.

WIMA: 1150 Lima transmitter site and towers are located on McClain Road as seen in the photos from 2015.

WING: 1410 Radio Dayton started in 1921 as WXAX, but quickly changed to WDBS (Watch Dayton's Broadcasting Station). In 1926 the change to WSMK was made to honor Stanley M. Krohn who founded the station. The change to WING after an ownership change in 1939. Studios, transmitter, and towers are located on East David Road as seen in the photos from 2015. This location is also home to FM stations WROU 92.1, WGTZ 92.9, WCLI 101.5, and WDHT 102.9.

WJW TV: This Cleveland station started out as WXEL on Channel 9. In 1952 they were moved to Channel 8. In 1956 they became WJW-TV, however between 1977 and 1985 they were WJKW-TV. The station is located at 5800 South Marginal Road.

WKEF TV: Channel 22 Dayton started in 1964 as WONE-TV. In 1965 the calls were changed to WKEF TV (Kathryn Elizabeth Flynn Broman). Studios at 2245 Corporate Place include those of Fox 45, WRGT TV.

WKKY: WKKY FM 104.7 Geneva, Ohio came on the air as WDON in 1987. Calls were changed to WKKY in 1992. Studios are located at 95 West Main Street. The WKKY FM transmitter and tower are located nearby in Madison Township at North Ridge Road and McMackin Road.

WKRC: WKRC 550 Cincinnati came on the air in 1922. Transmitter an towers are located in Cold Spring, Kentucky.

WKYC TV: Channel 4 Cleveland came on the air in 1948 as WBNK and moved to Channel 3 in 1952. In 1956 call letters were changed to KYW-TV and then to WKYC-TV in 1965 when the KYW calls were moved to Philadelphia. You can find information about this historic change elsewhere on the internet. Studios are located at 1333 Lakeside Aveanue East.

WLWT TV: This Cincinnati TV station has a rich history in television broadcasting dating back to 1945 as W8XCT on Channel 1. From 1948 until 1952 they were on Channel 4, moving to Channel 5 in 1952. Their affiliation with NBC was one of that networks first outside the Eastern part of the country. The on air screen grabs are from 2013.

WOSU: Ohio State University operates WOSU TV and Radio from the campus at 2400 Olentangy River Road. WOSU 820 Radio is now off the air.
WOSU TV Channel 34 and WOSU FM 89.7 have seen changes over the years, this site will not cover their history. The photos are from 2015.

WPTD TV: Channel 16 Dayton started in 1967 as WKTR-TV, in 1972 they changed to WOET-TV as part of the Ohio Educational Broadcasting

WREO: WREO-FM Ashtabula broadcasts from studios at 3226 Jefferson Road. The WREO call letters stand for Radio Enterprises of Ohio. The WREO-FM tower is to the left and the 4 towers to the right are used by WFUN 970 as noted above. WSAI: WSAI Radio 1360 Cincinnati has a long history starting in 1923. Over the years they changed call letters many times (WSAI, WWNK, WSAI, WAOZ, WAZU, WCKY, and in 2005 back to WSAI. The transmitter and tower site is located on Daly Road north of Cincinnati as seen in the photo from 2023.

WTVN: This Columbus station started out in 1922 as WBAV on 640. Calls were later changed to WAIU, then WHKC. In 1945 they moved to
610. The WTVN calls started in 1954 when they joined WTVN TV. The WTVN 610 transmitter and six towers are located on Obetz Road as seen in the photo from 2015.

WULM: This Springfield radio station started in 1946 as KJEL. In 1954 the calls were cvhanged to WBLY. Then in 2002 to WULM. The transmitter and tower for WULM 1600 and WDHT FM 102.9 is located on Miller Road as seen in the photos from 2015. The tower in the background is used by WEEC FM 100.7.

WVKO: WVKO Radio 1580 Columbus tower site in north-east Columbus on Wren Tree road as seen in 2015.

WVSG: 820 Radio Columbus came on the air in 1920 as 8XL. In 1922 the WEAO call letters were assigned, then in 1933 they were changed
to WOSU. In 2011 the calls were changed again, this time to WVSG. Their tower site is located on Red Rock Boulevard as seen in the photo from 2015.

WWOW: WWOW Radio 1360 Conneaut came on the air in 1959. Formats have included rock oldies as well as Catholic talk. They currently have a news talk format. Studios are located at 229 Broad Street as seen in the photos from 2010. Note the sign mentions "Walking on Water" reflecting the W-WOW call letters.

WXIX TV: WXIX TV Channel 19 is licensed to Newport, Kentucky and serves the Cincinnati market as a Fox affiliate. The screen grabs are from 2013.

WZOO: WZOO FM 102.5 is licensed to Edgewood, but serves the Ashtabula area. Studios are located with WREO, see above. Previously known as "102 Zoo" the change to Magic Oldies created copyright problems with WMJI-FM Cleveland. More information about this station can be found on the internet.
